Job Description
Role Overview
The VAS Performance Engineer is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the performance of Value-Added Services (VAS) across the telecom network. The role ensures high service availability, KPI compliance, and an enhanced customer experience across key VAS platforms including USSD, MCN, VMS, RBT, SMSC, Anti-Spam, MMSC, and MCC.
Key Responsibilities
1. Performance Monitoring & Analysis
- Monitor end-to-end performance of VAS services including:
- USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data)
- MCN (Missed Call Notification)
- VMS (Voice Mail Service)
- RBT (Ring Back Tone)
- SMSC (Short Message Service Center)
- Anti-Spam platforms
- MMSC (Multimedia Messaging Service Center)
- MCC (Mobile Collect Call)
- Track and analyze KPIs/KQIs such as success rate, latency, accessibility, retainability, and throughput.
- Identify performance degradation, anomalies, and service-impacting issues proactively.
2. KPI Management & Reporting
- Define and maintain KPIs aligned with SLA and business requirements.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports and dashboards.
- Provide insights and recommendations to improve service quality and customer experience.
- Support benchmarking and comparative analysis across platforms and vendors.
3. Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution
- Investigate service degradation and performance issues across VAS platforms.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and define corrective/preventive actions.
- Coordinate with Core, IP, Transmission, and IT teams for end-to-end resolution.
- Support operations teams during critical incidents and high-traffic events.
4. Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Recommend and implement optimization actions to improve service performance.
- Analyze traffic trends and suggest capacity upgrades or configuration tuning.
- Support deployment of new services and ensure performance compliance.
- Collaborate with vendors for platform optimization and enhancements.
5. Automation & Analytics
- Support development of automation use cases such as anomaly detection and performance alerts.
- Utilize analytics tools (e.g., ENIQ, CEM, dashboards) for data-driven insights.
- Contribute to AI/ML-based initiatives for performance optimization and reporting.
6. Stakeholder Coordination
- Interface with internal teams, vendors, and customers.
- Present performance reports and insights to management and stakeholders.
- Ensure alignment on performance targets and improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of telecom VAS architecture and protocols (SMPP, HTTP, SIP, SS7, Diameter).
- Experience with VAS platforms such as USSD GW, SMSC, MMSC, VMS, etc.
- Knowledge of 2G/3G/4G/5G core network integration with VAS systems.
- Familiarity with performance monitoring tools (ENIQ, CEM, probes, dashboards).
Analytical Skills
- Strong data analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in KPI definition, monitoring, and reporting.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure during critical network incidents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in telecom operators or vendor environments.
- Exposure to automation or AI-driven network performance solutions.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (Python/SQL) is an advantage.
