Technical Director

The client is looking for a Technical Director (Network Planning & Optimization) to work a 6 month rolling contract based in South Africa (Johannesburg).

 Requirements:

• Strong 5G FWA technical experience – critical.
• Candidates should have strong, demonstratable hands-on/technical experience with 5G FWA, rather than general exposure to 5G technology only.
• Strong understanding of RAN/network planning and optimisation across 2G/3G/4G/5G environments.
• Good knowledge of radio and transmission technologies, network architecture and performance engineering.
• Experience with KPI/KQI-driven network optimisation and transformation initiatives.
• Experience with network swap, modernization or large-scale network transformation programmes would be highly advantageous.

Strong customer-facing and strategic capability:

• The role will interface directly with senior customer stakeholders, including CTO-level stakeholders and Optimisation teams.
• Candidates therefore need to demonstrate strong customer-facing communication, strategic thinking and executive presentation skills.
• The successful candidate must be able to understand and articulate complex technical matters, develop strategic recommendations and influence senior customer stakeholders.
• Candidates whose experience is primarily technical/operational, without significant customer-facing or strategic engagement, may not be suitable for this role.

Senior technical leadership:

• Ideally 15+ years’ relevant telecom experience.
• Proven leadership experience in network planning, optimisation, architecture and/or transformation.
• Experience leading senior technical, engineering and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to operate at a senior technical authority level and provide strategic guidance on network evolution.
