Job Description

The client is looking for a System Engineer to work a 6 month rolling contract based in Belgium (Mechelen).

 

Job Summary:

  • The client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented System Engineer with 2–3 years of experience in Shell Scripting and Python development.
  • The candidate will be involved in system automation tasks, environment setup, and maintenance of applications. Exposure to TOSCA Test Automation – Suite will be considered a significant advantage.
  • You will work closely with senior engineers and Product Owners to support automation initiatives, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure system stability.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scripting and Automation:
    • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Shell Scripts for system tasks and process automation.
    • Manage and automate routine system administration activities.
    • Design and develop Python scripts/tools for data parsing, log analysis, and workflow automation.
    • Optimize existing Python scripts for better performance and maintainability.
  • System Support and Maintenance:
    • Assist in setup, configuration, and maintenance of Linux/Unix-based environments.
    • Monitor system health, logs, and resolve basic infrastructure issues in collaboration with senior team members.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams (QA, DevOps, Development) to support automation workflows/pipelines.
    • TOSCA Test Automation Support (Optional/Preferred).
    • Support TOSCA administrators in basic tasks like application scanning, test case preparation, and execution setup.
    • Provide first-level support for TOSCA-related issues and environment preparation.

 

Requirements:

  • Required skills:
    • 2 – 3 years of experience in Shell Scripting (Bash/Korn/C Shell).
    • Strong hands-on experience in Python scripting and automation.
    • Good understanding of Linux/Unix systems and command-line utilities.
    • Basic knowledge of version control systems like Git.
    • Analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities.
  • Good to Have (Preferred Skills):
    • Exposure to TOSCA Test Automation Suite – basic scanning, execution, or server components.
    • Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
    • Understanding of REST APIs and JSON data handling.
    • Familiarity with tools like Jenkins, JIRA, Confluence.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.

 

Please note: You need to be based on site for this role. Due to the urgency the client will only consider consultants with an EU passport.
