Job Description

The FSO Site Engineer is responsible for on-site telecom operations, ensuring efficient implementation, maintenance, and high-quality delivery of network infrastructure. The role involves managing field activities, supervising teams, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and delivering projects within defined timelines.


Roles & Responsibilities

1. Site Execution & Implementation

  • Execute site installation, integration, and commissioning activities (RAN, transmission, and power systems).
  • Ensure all work is completed according to design documents, scope of work, and technical standards.
  • Coordinate with the Network Operations Center (NOC) for integration and troubleshooting.
  • Utilize network management and field operation tools to manage site activities.

2. Field Supervision

  • Supervise field technicians and team members on-site.
  • Ensure proper allocation and efficient use of manpower, tools, and materials.
  • Monitor daily site activities and track progress against project plans.

3. Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with internal and customer quality standards.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits before, during, and after implementation.
  • Validate installation quality, including cabling, grounding, labeling, and equipment setup.

4. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Enforce strict adherence to HSE policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all field staff hold valid certifications and use appropriate PPE.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and risk assessments prior to site activities.

5. Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare daily and weekly progress reports.
  • Maintain complete site documentation (checklists, as-built drawings, acceptance reports).
  • Report issues, risks, and delays to the Site Supervisor or Project Manager.

6. Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with customer representatives, landlords, and local authorities.
  • Support site acceptance processes with clients.
  • Collaborate closely with planning, design, and logistics teams.

7. Troubleshooting & Maintenance

  • Identify and resolve on-site technical issues.
  • Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Ensure optimal network uptime and service quality.

Background and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in telecom field operations.

Technical Skills

  • RAN knowledge (2G/3G/4G/5G).
  • RBS 6000 installation and commissioning.
  • Script loading and alarm clearance for RBS systems.
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting in RAN equipment.
  • RF installation, testing, and fault analysis (VSWR, DTF, etc.).
  • Civil works knowledge and site quality standards.
  • Technical Site Surveys (TSSR) and site planning.
  • Telecommunications equipment installation standards.
  • Basic software commissioning.

Transmission Knowledge

  • Microwave systems (Mini-Link TN, 20P, 20PB, 6P, 6600 series).
  • Microwave antenna types and sizing (0.3m to 1.2m+).
  • Installation and commissioning of microwave links.
  • Configuration types (1+0, 2+0, 2+2, 4+0, etc.).
  • Troubleshooting microwave links.
  • VLAN configurations.
  • Advanced configurations (XPIC, E-band, etc.).

Personal Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of RAN, transmission (MW/Fiber), and power systems (DC, batteries, rectifiers).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and site documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and integration skills.
  • Good understanding of EHS regulations and standards.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Leadership and team supervision capability.
  • Attention to detail and compliance focus.
  • Audit and inspection capability.
  • Change management mindset and adaptability.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Computer literate.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in GSM field operations.
