Job Description

The Senior Architect: Enterprise Applications and Strategy is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving the organization’s enterprise application architecture to ensure business applications are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with strategic business objectives.

The role provides architectural leadership for enterprise applications, integration platforms, and modernization initiatives, ensuring core business systems support operational excellence, digital transformation, and future business growth. This includes developing enterprise application roadmaps, establishing architecture standards, driving system standardization, and enabling seamless integration across business domains.

Working closely with business leaders, enterprise architects, technology teams, vendors, and project stakeholders, the role ensures enterprise applications are designed and implemented using modern architecture principles, cloud-native technologies, and industry best practices.


Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

1. Enterprise Application Architecture

  • Define and maintain the enterprise application architecture to ensure scalability, high availability, resilience, and security.
  • Develop architecture standards and reference models for enterprise business applications.
  • Ensure enterprise applications align with business capability models and domain-driven architecture principles.
  • Promote modular, reusable, and maintainable application architectures.

2. Enterprise Application Strategy & Roadmaps

  • Develop and maintain strategic technology roadmaps for core enterprise platforms, including:
    • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
    • Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
    • Finance Systems
    • Human Resources Systems
    • Other enterprise business applications
  • Identify modernization opportunities and technology improvements aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Conduct regular capability and gap assessments to support business growth and innovation.

3. Enterprise Integration Architecture

  • Define and govern enterprise integration standards and patterns, including:
    • API-led integration
    • Event-driven architecture
    • Middleware integration
    • Real-time messaging
  • Establish reusable integration frameworks and standards.
  • Ensure reliable, secure, and scalable integration across enterprise applications and platforms.

4. Solution Architecture & Business Enablement

  • Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable solution architectures.
  • Facilitate solution design workshops and technical requirement gathering sessions.
  • Provide architectural guidance for new initiatives and innovation opportunities.
  • Review and approve solution designs prior to implementation.
  • Ensure stakeholder alignment and formal architecture sign-off.

5. Enterprise Application Modernization

  • Lead the modernization of legacy enterprise systems through:
    • Cloud-native architectures
    • Modular application design
    • Composable enterprise architecture
    • API-first development
  • Reduce technical debt through architecture simplification and standardization.
  • Promote adoption of modern software engineering practices.

6. Technical Leadership & Governance

  • Provide enterprise architecture leadership across strategic technology initiatives.
  • Define architecture governance processes, standards, and design principles.
  • Promote architecture consistency across enterprise platforms.
  • Mentor solution architects and technical teams on enterprise architecture best practices.

Governance

Architecture Governance

  • Lead or participate in enterprise architecture governance forums.
  • Review and approve enterprise solution designs.
  • Monitor architecture performance through key indicators including:
    • Number of successfully governed enterprise solutions
    • Percentage of solutions aligned with target architecture
    • Improvement in integration efficiency
    • Improvement in enterprise data consistency
    • Reduction in technical debt
    • Reduction in architecture-related production incidents

Escalation Management

  • Manage and resolve escalations affecting:
    • Enterprise applications
    • Integration platforms
    • Cross-platform dependencies
    • Enterprise architecture compliance
    • Technology modernization initiatives

Reporting

  • Provide periodic reports to executive leadership covering:
    • Enterprise architecture initiatives
    • Solution governance
    • Technology roadmap progress
    • Architecture compliance
    • Strategic project updates
  • Prepare ad hoc reports for executive management and strategic programs as required.

Budget Responsibilities

  • Support planning and management of enterprise application investments, including operational and capital expenditure associated with enterprise platforms, modernization initiatives, and supporting technologies.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in:
    • Computer Science
    • Information Systems
    • Software Engineering
    • Information Technology
    • Or a related discipline

Professional Certifications (Preferred)

  • TOGAF or equivalent Enterprise Architecture certification
  • SAFe Architect certification
  • Cloud Architecture certifications (Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud)
  • Enterprise application certifications (SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, or equivalent)
  • API and Integration platform certifications (Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, AWS API Gateway, or equivalent)

Experience

  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in Software Architecture or Enterprise Architecture.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience designing and governing enterprise business applications such as:
    • ERP
    • CRM
    • Finance systems
    • Human Resources systems
    • Other enterprise platforms
  • Proven experience implementing Enterprise Architecture frameworks such as TOGAF.
  • Experience with:
    • Enterprise Architecture governance
    • Capability maturity assessments
    • Technology standardization
    • Software engineering practices
  • Experience designing secure enterprise data pipelines incorporating:
    • Encryption
    • Tokenization
    • Data masking
  • Strong experience with enterprise integration technologies including:
    • Enterprise Service Bus (ESB)
    • API Management Platforms
    • Event Streaming
    • Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS)
  • Experience integrating enterprise systems using:
    • REST APIs
    • Webhooks
    • Event-driven messaging
  • Experience designing and supporting real-time data platforms using technologies such as Kafka, Event Hubs, Pub/Sub, or equivalent.
