Job Purpose

The Scrum Master is responsible for facilitating Agile delivery, coaching cross-functional teams on Agile principles and best practices, removing impediments, and enabling the successful delivery of high-quality digital products and technology solutions.

This role promotes a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and delivery excellence while ensuring Agile teams operate efficiently and consistently deliver value to the business. The Scrum Master works closely with Product Owners, delivery teams, architects, and business stakeholders to support successful product development aligned with organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Agile Delivery Facilitation

• Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies, including:
  • Sprint Planning
  • Daily Stand-ups
  • Sprint Reviews
  • Sprint Retrospectives
• Ensure Agile ceremonies are effective, focused, and deliver meaningful outcomes.
• Promote Agile values, principles, and best practices across delivery teams.
• Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Agile Coaching

• Coach and mentor Scrum Teams in Agile and Scrum methodologies.
• Support Product Owners in backlog management, prioritisation, and sprint readiness.
• Guide teams toward increased self-organisation and cross-functional collaboration.
• Encourage continuous learning and Agile maturity across teams.

Delivery Support

• Identify, manage, and remove impediments affecting team delivery.
• Facilitate dependency management across multiple teams where required.
• Work closely with delivery managers, architects, and business stakeholders to resolve delivery challenges.
• Support risk identification and mitigation throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Performance Monitoring

• Track Agile delivery metrics, including:
  • Sprint Velocity
  • Burndown Charts
  • Cycle Time
  • Lead Time
  • Sprint Predictability
• Provide regular reporting and insights to stakeholders on team performance and delivery progress.
• Use metrics to drive continuous improvement rather than performance measurement alone.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Collaborate with Product Owners to maintain a healthy, prioritised, and well-refined product backlog.
• Support effective communication between business stakeholders and delivery teams.
• Facilitate alignment between product vision, delivery priorities, and organisational objectives.

Agile Governance

• Ensure delivery teams comply with organisational Agile governance and delivery standards.
• Support Agile transformation initiatives across the organisation.
• Mentor junior Scrum Masters and contribute to Agile communities of practice where applicable.

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Scrum Master within technology, digital transformation, software development, or enterprise delivery environments.
• Strong understanding of Agile delivery methodologies, including:
  • Scrum
  • Kanban
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) (advantageous)
• Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies and coaching multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience managing delivery risks, dependencies, and impediments.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Excellent facilitation, coaching, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities.

Preferred

Experience working with:

• APIs
• Microservices architectures
• Cloud-based applications
• Digital platforms
• Enterprise technology programmes

Experience using Agile delivery tools such as:

• Jira
• Azure DevOps
• Confluence

Qualifications

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Preferred Certifications

• Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)
• Professional Scrum Master (PSM I or PSM II)
• PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)
• SAFe Agilist or SAFe Scrum Master
• ICAgile Agile Coaching certifications (advantageous)
