Job Description

The PS Core Engineer is responsible for the design, configuration, optimization, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Ericsson Packet Core solutions, including EPC, MME, and 5G Core networks. The role requires hands-on experience with Ericsson Packet Core technologies and close collaboration with planning, operations, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure high availability, reliability, and optimal performance of mobile broadband services.

Key Responsibilities
Perform daily health checks and monitor alarms on Ericsson PS Core nodes, including MME, EPG, PCC/PCG, SAPC, SMF/UPF, NEF, ESOA, and related network elements.
Troubleshoot and resolve network faults, capacity issues, and performance degradation.
Manage subscriber sessions, PDP contexts, bearer handling, and IMSI tracing.
Configure and implement new APNs, IMSI ranges, rating groups, and QoS profiles.
Configure PCC policies, including PDR, QER, FAR, and URR rules, and integrate with PCRF/SAPC.
Manage DNS, NAPTR, and SRV configurations for IMS and EPC services.
Support the integration and commissioning of new Packet Core nodes, including virtualized and cloud-native deployments such as vEPG, vMME, and vUPF.
Plan and execute software upgrades, patch installations, and capacity expansions.
Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including attach success rate, bearer setup success, handover success, latency, and throughput.
Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash, Python, Expect, AWK, or similar scripting languages for log analysis, KPI reporting, and operational automation.
Prepare technical documentation, implementation plans, and operational procedures.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support network optimization and service delivery.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of Ericsson Packet Core technologies, including SGSN, MME, EPG (GGSN/PGW/SGW), PCC/PCG, SAPC, DRA, SMF/UPF, NEF, and ESOA.
Solid understanding of 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, and 5G Core call flows, including Attach, TAU/RAU, Handover, and Session Management.
Strong understanding of networking protocols such as GTP-C/U, Diameter, RADIUS, HTTP/2, SIP, SCTP, TCP/IP, and UDP.
Experience with virtualization and cloud technologies, including VMware, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and Docker.
Hands-on experience with Ericsson command-line tools such as gsh, vshell, epg, and pcc.
Familiarity with OSS/BSS environments and network management tools such as ENM, ENIQ, NetAct, and Wireshark.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage critical network incidents within agreed service levels.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and technical documentation skills.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
4–8 years of hands-on experience supporting Packet Core, EPC, or 5G Core networks, preferably in Ericsson environments.
Ericsson technical certifications are an advantage.
Knowledge of cloud-native 5G Core architectures, including dual-mode 5GC, CNIS, and SMF/UPF integration, is desirable.
Experience working in telecom operations, managed services, or network support environments is preferred.
