Microwave Technical Engineer

The client is looking for a Microwave Technical Engineer to work a 6 month rolling contract based in South Africa (Johannesburg).

Qualifications and Requirements:

• 3–5 years of experience in telecommunications transmission, with hands-on experience in Microwave network deployment, commissioning, integration, acceptance, and BO/NOC maintenance. Experience with E-band (80 GHz) Microwave solutions is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Microwave technologies and principles, including Link Budget, RSL, ACM, XPIC, modulation/capacity, frequency planning, interference analysis, availability, and rain-fade characteristics. Good understanding of E-band high-capacity and short-distance transmission scenarios is preferred.
• Good understanding of Ethernet/IP transmission over Microwave, including VLAN, QoS, LAG, Ethernet OAM, and basic IP troubleshooting. Knowledge of SyncE and IEEE 1588v2/PTP synchronization is required.
• Hands-on experience in Microwave link commissioning and troubleshooting, including antenna alignment, RSL verification, capacity testing, performance monitoring, and end-to-end service verification. Familiarity with E-band antenna alignment and installation quality requirements is an advantage.
• Experience in remote fault localization, outage recovery, emergency troubleshooting, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for Microwave networks. Able to independently analyze hardware, transmission, interference, configuration, synchronization, and performance-related issues.
• Experience in software upgrades, configuration changes, capacity expansion, link optimization, health checks, and preventive maintenance for Microwave networks.
• Experience with Microwave NMS/EMS platforms and performance analysis, including RSL, modulation, BER, ES/SES, throughput, availability, alarms, and historical performance trends. Basic Linux and network diagnostic skills are preferred.
• Able to support site integration, commissioning, acceptance, and field troubleshooting, and work effectively with field teams, NOC/BO teams, project teams, and customer technical teams.
• Responsible, proactive, and customer-oriented, with good communication, documentation, and teamwork skills. Able to prepare technical reports, troubleshooting records, and RCA reports in English.
• Willing to participate in 24/7 emergency on-call support and provide remote or on-site technical support when required.
• Hands-on experience with major Microwave vendor platforms, such as ZTE, Ericsson MINI-LINK, Huawei RTN, or Ceragon, is preferred. Relevant vendor or industry certifications are an advantage.

Preferred E-band Experience:

• Candidates with practical experience in E-band link deployment and maintenance, including link planning, antenna alignment, rain-fade analysis, RSL optimization, high-capacity Ethernet services, synchronization, commissioning, and acceptance testing, will be given preference.
