Job Description
Mission / Core Purpose of the Job
The Senior DevOps Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising scalable, secure, and reliable platform solutions across hybrid cloud environments, including public cloud platforms, private cloud infrastructure, and on-premises Kubernetes platforms.
The role plays a key part in enabling efficient software delivery through automation, infrastructure provisioning, CI/CD pipelines, platform engineering, observability, and secure connectivity. The successful candidate will ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of production and non-production environments while driving DevOps best practices across engineering teams.
This role supports multiple business units with a strong focus on platform engineering, DevSecOps, workload identity integration, automation, governance, and operational excellence. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to implement modern engineering practices while maintaining security, compliance, and enterprise architecture standards.
The role will contribute to improving delivery quality, platform resilience, operational efficiency, and DevOps maturity while mentoring engineering teams and promoting continuous improvement.
Key Performance Areas (KPAs)
Strategy Development and Implementation
- Execute DevOps and platform engineering strategies aligned with organisational technology objectives and roadmap.
- Translate strategic goals into actionable initiatives covering:
- Production and non-production environments
- Automation
- Tooling
- Platform reliability
- Infrastructure optimisation
- Design and enhance infrastructure-as-code, GitOps practices, observability solutions, and automated deployment processes.
- Drive adoption of modern DevOps and secure software delivery practices across engineering teams.
- Contribute to DevOps and engineering roadmaps, ensuring alignment with enterprise technology transformation initiatives.
- Establish governance practices, performance metrics, and reporting mechanisms to measure strategy execution and identify improvement opportunities.
Operational Delivery
- Define and implement CI/CD strategies to enable frequent, reliable, and automated software releases.
- Design, build, and maintain automated deployment pipelines and infrastructure-as-code solutions using technologies such as:
- Kubernetes
- Docker
- Terraform
- Bicep
- Collaborate with engineering teams to manage infrastructure requirements across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response processes to maintain platform availability and performance.
- Apply DevSecOps practices including:
- Vulnerability management
- Access control
- Security automation
- Compliance enforcement
- Manage environment provisioning, configuration management, and release readiness activities.
- Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimisation initiatives.
- Support system upgrades, patching activities, and technical validation including performance and load testing.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, cost optimisation, and increased operational efficiency.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration across engineering teams.
Governance, Tactical Execution & Performance Management
- Participate in strategic and operational technology discussions, providing technical guidance and recommendations.
- Support project planning, delivery initiatives, and technology improvement programmes.
- Manage and resolve critical technical escalations by engaging relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor team and vendor performance against agreed KPIs and service-level expectations.
- Drive corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support budget planning and cost optimisation activities related to DevOps platforms and tooling.
- Track and report delivery progress, risks, issues, and outcomes using defined governance processes.
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (4 years) in:
- Engineering
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Related technical discipline
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert
- Cloud DevOps certifications
- Kubernetes/OpenShift Administration certifications
- Infrastructure platform administration certifications
Experience
- Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, Senior DevOps Engineer, Platform Engineer, or similar role.
- Minimum 4–5 years of experience in technical architecture, application development, infrastructure engineering, or operations.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and DevOps principles.
- Experience working with public and private cloud platforms.
- Experience with cloud technologies such as:
- Azure
- Alibaba Cloud
- Private cloud platforms
- OpenShift
- Kubernetes-based environments
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure automation tools, including:
- Terraform
- Bicep
- Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices
- Experience with containerisation technologies:
- Docker
- Kubernetes
- Experience with:
- Microservices architecture
- Serverless computing
- CI/CD automation
- Monitoring and observability platforms
- Incident management processes
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
- Experience in financial services, fintech, or highly regulated environments is preferred.
