Job Description

The client is looking for a Linux Systems and Infrastructure Manager to work a 6 month extendable contract based in Kingston, Jamaica (On-site).

Overview:

The Manager, Linux Systems and Infrastructure leads the team responsible for designing, deploying, administering, and supporting all Unix/Linux-based systems and related infrastructure services across the Group. This role is positioned within the Center of Excellence (CoE) and is accountable for driving operational excellence, ensuring system reliability, overseeing major infrastructure initiatives, and supporting the business with scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic & Operational Oversight:

  • Own the architecture, implementation, and lifecycle management of Unix/Linux systems (Red Hat, Solaris, Oracle Linux)
  • Oversee storage (SAN), virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, OVM), and backup infrastructure
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for complex incidents and change activities

Project Management:

  • Drive strategic projects including hardware stabilization across our markets, data center transformations, and cloud readiness assessments
  • Develop and manage infrastructure roadmaps, project scopes, and timelines in collaboration with cross-functional teams

Governance, Risk & Compliance:

  • Ensure systems are compliant with security and audit requirements (e.g., VMware/Broadcom, Redhat, Oracle, etc.)
  • Lead disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution across infrastructure domains
  • Coordinate resolution of compliance issues such as software licensing audits

Continuous Improvement & Automation:

  • Promote automation of routine administration tasks (e.g., via Bash/Python scripting)
  • Identify and implement tools and processes to improve performance monitoring, alerting, and self-healing capabilities

Network & Security Operations:

  • Configure, monitor, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and enforce endpoint and infrastructure security controls
  • Support ISO-27001 compliance initiatives through vulnerability remediation and audit preparation

IT Asset Management & Procurement:

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of IT equipment, and infrastructure assets
  • Coordinate warranty claims, vendor repairs, and hardware lifecycle management
  • Support IT budget planning through tracking of infrastructure usage and equipment needs

Team Leadership & Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Linux systems administrators and senior infrastructure engineers
  • Define goals, measure performance, and promote continuous development of team members
  • Foster a culture of knowledge sharing, documentation, and technical excellence

Innovation & CoE Participation:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, participate in PoCs, and recommend enhancements to IT strategy
  • Contribute to defining standards and blueprints used across regional IT teams

 

Requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline
  • 8+ years of progressive Unix/Linux systems administration experience
  • At least 3 years in a team leadership or managerial capacity in a 24/7 production environment
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent Unix/Linux certification
  • VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
  • Certifications preferred: ITIL v4, AZ-900, CompTIA Linux+, Network+, Security+

Deep expertise in:

  • SAN technologies (HPE 3PAR & Alletra, Dell Compellent & PowerStore)
  • Virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, OVM)
  • Cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS)
  • Backup/recovery (Veritas NetBackup, Veeam, HPE StoreOnce, tape libraries)
  • Network protocols and services: TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, LDAP, SSH, HTTP/S.
