Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
- Provide expert L2 database administration for Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases supporting Billing and broader BSS application workloads.
- Ensure database availability, performance, integrity, and security in line with SLA commitments within the enterprise BSS managed services environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer Oracle Database (19c and above) and Microsoft SQL Server (2017/2019) instances hosting BSS and billing application schemas.
- Perform database health monitoring, alert management, and proactive maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve L2 database incidents: performance degradation, lock contention, space issues, ORA- errors, SQL deadlocks.
- Manage Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) and Data Guard configurations for HA and DR.
- Administer MS SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances.
- Perform database tuning: query optimization, index management, statistics refresh, and execution plan analysis.
- Manage database backups: RMAN for Oracle, native SQL Server backup, and integration with enterprise backup tools.
- Perform and validate database restore operations per RTO/RPO requirements.
- Manage Oracle ASM, tablespace growth, and capacity planning for database storage.
- Apply Oracle Critical Patch Updates (CPU) and SQL Server service packs per Change Management.
- Administer database user accounts, roles, privileges, and auditing.
- Coordinate with BSS application teams for schema changes, data migrations, and performance tuning.
- Maintain database documentation, configuration records, and CMDB accuracy.
- Support DR testing and database failover/switchover exercises.
- Respond to L1 NOC escalations for database-related alerts.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 8–12 years of experience in Oracle and/or MS SQL Server DBA roles.
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) preferred.
- Microsoft Certified DBA or equivalent SQL Server certification preferred.
- Expert knowledge of Oracle 19c: RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, ASM, partitioning, and performance tuning.
- Strong knowledge of MS SQL Server: Always On AG, SSIS, SSRS, SQL Agent, and T-SQL.
- Experience with billing/BSCS database schemas (Oracle) is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in PL/SQL and T-SQL scripting.
- Experience with database performance tools: AWR, ADDM, ASH (Oracle), Query Store (SQL Server).
- Knowledge of database security: TDE, auditing, privilege management.
- ITIL awareness – incident and change management.
- English skills – oral and written.

- Billing System – Primary database – Oracle database administration: RAC, Data Guard, ASM, RMAN backup, schema management, rating engine data, BCH/BGH tables, and CDR/UDR storage.
- Order Management System – Oracle/SQL database instances – schema administration, performance tuning, and index management for order processing data.
- Product Catalog System – Product catalog database – product catalog data model, pricing tables, and catalog version management database support.
- Mediation System – Mediation database – CDR processing queue tables, archive policies, and mediation DB health monitoring.
- CRM System – MS SQL Server database for CRM – Always On AG, SQL Agent, SSRS, and CRM schema administration.
- Document Management System – MS SQL Server backend – content database management, AG configuration, and SQL maintenance.
- Power BI/Analytics/ETL Platforms – Reporting/BI – Analytics database administration – columnar store management, workload routing, and ETL data pipeline database support.
- Enterprise Backup/Restore – RMAN-to-enterprise backup integration; SQL Server VSS agent configuration and database restore validation.
- Monitoring & Logging Platforms – Database performance metrics (AWR, wait events, Query Store) exported to centralized monitoring/logging platforms for dashboarding and alerting.
- ITSM Platform – Change management for database patching, schema changes, data migrations, and emergency database operations.
- IAM/PAM/Security Tools – Database privileged account management; Oracle TDE and SQL Server TDE encryption; database audit trail and access governance.
EDUCATION
- University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent.
- OCP certification preferred.
