Job Description

Ryan Harrington is looking for an Infrastructure Systems Administrator to work in Jamaica.

 

The Infrastructure System Administrator is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. Some of the responsibilities include: participation in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure, ensuring that systems hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, day-to-day administration and monitoring to ensure SLA are met and support to the various teams to deliver projects in a timely manner and provide the best services.

 

This individual is accountable for the following systems: Linux, UNIX systems, Virtualization Hosts, Storage and Backup for IT infrastructure. Responsibilities on these systems include:

  • Installation, configuration and upgrading Unix/Linux and virtualization OS.
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and requirements.
  • Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures.
  • Get involved in new project design and implementation.
  • Implement and maintain systems security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges).
  • Perform OS tuning and performance monitoring.
  • Set up and maintain documentation and standards.
  • Work as part of a team and provide 7×24 support when required.
  • Perform general technical troubleshooting and give consultation to different teams.
  • Interface with vendors for technical support.
  • Maintaining servers/storages/backup infrastructures.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted users/teams.
 

Required academic qualifications:

  • First degree in the field of computer science
  • Five years of work experience.
  • Three years’ experience in Unix/Linux administration.
 

Required skills:

  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting OS issues.
  • Good understanding of backup/restore technologies.
  • Good knowledge of hardware installation and troubleshooting.
  • Good knowledge of systems security management.
  • Good knowledge of shell scripting.
  • High availability such as Sun cluster administration is a plus.
  • Good communication skills with management, development teams, vendors.
  • Able to conduct research into issues and products as required.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to make fast and logical decisions.
  • Good understanding of Digicel’s goals and objectives.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to present ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
