CORE Network Optimization Expert

The client is looking for a CORE Network Optimization Expert to work in Africa.

Job Summary:

The client is seeking a highly skilled CORE Network Optimization Expert to oversee the performance and efficiency of their mobile core network. The role is critical in identifying, analysing and resolving performance issues in the core network elements (e.g., PS/CS, HSS/UDM, MME/AMF, SGW/UPF, PCRF/PCF). The candidate will be responsible for driving continuous optimization to ensure seamless connectivity, high availability and service quality for voice and data services.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Network Performance Monitoring:

• Monitor KPIs and QoS indicators across core network nodes and interfaces (S1, X2, PSR, IN SR, LU SR, AUTH SR, USSD SR, RAU SR, etc.) to detect anomalies and bottlenecks.

Optimization & Tuning:

• Support NPM team in analysing and optimizing signalling, bearer paths, latency, throughput and handover success rates in the network. Adjust CORE parameters to improve performance.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA):

• Conduct in-depth analysis of core-related network degradations and customer complaints. Lead corrective action plans.

Capacity Planning:

• Analyse traffic trends and forecast future growth. Recommend hardware or license upgrades as needed.

New Feature Integration:

• Evaluate and implement software features from core vendors (e.g., Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, Cisco) for better performance and service capabilities.

Cross-Domain Collaboration:

• Work closely with NPM, RAN, Transport, IP, and Service teams to ensure end-to-end performance optimization.

Reporting & Documentation:

• Prepare regular performance reports, dashboards, and presentations for management and stakeholders.

Required Skills & Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in telecom core network engineering and optimization.
• Deep understanding of 3GPP standards for 4G EPC.
• Hands-on experience with core network nodes (MME, SGW, PGW, HSS, PCRF, AMF, SMF, UPF, UDM, PCF, etc.
