Job Description

The CMDB and 3PP Configuration Engineer is responsible for managing the configuration of IT services and third-party products within the Configuration Management Database (CMDB). This role ensures accurate, secure, and compliant configuration data across internal systems and external integrations. The engineer plays a critical role in maintaining service integrity, supporting audits, and enabling efficient change and incident management.

Responsibilities

CMDB Management

  • Maintain and update Configuration Items (CIs) in the CMDB, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and traceability.
  • Define and enforce CI relationships, attributes, and lifecycle states.
  • Collaborate with service owners and infrastructure teams to validate and reconcile configuration data.

Third-Party Product (3PP) Configuration

  • Manage configuration and integration of third-party software and services across environments.
  • Ensure third-party configurations align with internal standards and security policies.
  • Track and document dependencies, licenses, and support agreements for third-party products.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure configuration practices comply with ITIL, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and other relevant standards.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing validated configuration data and documentation.
  • Monitor configuration drift and implement corrective actions.

Tooling & Automation

  • Use tools such as ServiceNow CMDB, BMC Remedy, or similar platforms for configuration management.
  • Automate configuration discovery and updates using scripts or integration tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, REST APIs).
  • Integrate CMDB with asset management, change management, and monitoring systems.

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with IT Operations, DevOps, Security, and Vendor Management teams.
  • Provide support for Incident and Problem Management by supplying accurate configuration data.
  • Participate in Change Advisory Boards (CABs) and risk assessments.

Experience and Skills

  • 4+ years of experience in Configuration Management, Infrastructure Engineering, or IT Operations.
  • Strong experience with CMDB platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, BMC Remedy).
  • Familiarity with third-party software lifecycle and vendor management.
  • Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
  • Familiarity with ITIL framework and service management principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in managing configuration data.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-compliance environment.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, self-driven, and ability to motivate a fast-paced team.
  • Experience working across diverse cultures and geographies.
  • IT Operations SLA management experience.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • ITIL Foundation, Expert v3, Managing Professional, or Master Certification (Preferred).
  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator.
  • HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate.
  • Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation.
  • Python Institute – PCEP or PCAP.
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
  • BMC Remedy Administrator Certification (where applicable).
  • CompTIA Server+ or Linux+ certification (for infrastructure fundamentals).
