Job Description
Junior UNIX Administrator / Support Engineer:
Our client, a market leading telecommunications company urgently requires a Junior UNIX Administrator / Support Engineer, to take part on a rolling 12 month project with our client in Reading.
The ideal Unix Administrator will have approximately 2 years Unix experience working on a client site, but is also a great opportunity to develop your skills as you will shadow other experts within the organisation and receive extensive coaching as you go. This will develop your skills, giving yourself a boost for the next stage of your career.
Responsibilities of the Unix Adminstrator / Support Engineer include:
- Working with the customer technical staff to replace the faulty parts in the systems and support the customer’s testing
- Running the designated acceptance testing once a part is replaced
- Build up your coding knowledge and be able to investigate the issues thoroughly before escalating to R&D
- Use the provided test tools to capture and investigate the logs required by R&D
- Communicating with customers to establish problems
- Investigating and resolving customer problems within the contracted SLAs
- Updating the call tracking system, providing status updates and action plans, providing customer resolution reports for issues
- Provide technical support to EMEA delivery and support teams
Skills& Experience of the Unix Adminstrator / Support Engineer include:
- Solid experience working with UNIX (Solaris or Redhat Linux)
- UNIX System Administration skills
- Proven coding experience
- Experience of installing, upgrading and configuring computer hardware and software
- Knowledge of mobile networks preferred but not essential
- Good understanding of software engineering principles
- Understanding of the SIP protocol
- Experience working with HP and Sun platforms
- Experience working with IP networks, Cisco router configuration
- Experience of site visits to replace hardware components
- Must be prepared to travel regularly in the UK
