It sounds cool but what does wow through service really mean...? I know what it can feel like when I receive good customer service from a supermarket assistant or from my phone company but how do you demonstrate the WOW part daily?
This August 2017 I decided to take my family on 3 week dream holiday of a lifetime to the Magical World of Disney in Florida, Not only is the brand synonymous for transporting your imagination to fantastic places beyond belief, but I realised quickly first hand the brand is only half the story, the people who work there know how to make the magic happen by delivering that WOW on every level of interaction in an effortless way, it got me thinking how I could share their ethos and apply it to my Recruitment Career...
1. "If you can dream it you can do it." (Walt Disney)
This is one of Walt’s most famous quotes, and great advice for any recruiter trying to solve a client /candidates problems. Making both sides happy sometimes requires creativity, Remember there is no box.
2. "Venture outside your comfort zone. The rewards are worth it." (Rapunzel Tangled)
Some of the best consultants are the ones who will challenge themselves, they throw down the gauntlet everyday at their own feet, they challenge themselves to make more connections by picking up the phone one more time, learning new skills by remaining the student, giving more than what’s expected of them and impressing those around by the reputation of being a big do-er rather than a big talker. You will be wowed by what you can create once you grow beyond your comfort zone.
3. "Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it." (Rafiki, The Lion King)
You will make mistakes, It is important to embrace the past, learn quickly and please do not repeat a mistake more than twice, you may forget to reply to an important email or make that candidate call back you scheduled mistakenly at 5:30pm, to help you improve think about alerts that work like pop-ups on screen or post-stick notes on your jacket, yes I said jacket/ bag whatever just don’t leave the office without doing what you said you would do, WOW is still needed at 5:31.
4. "A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference." (Eeyore Winnie the Pooh)
Put yourself in your candidates shoes the next time they are not selected for a role you are working. Show sympathy, empathy and consideration. It will help strengthen and build a strong relationship so WOW is delivered as you let them down, who knows they may offer you referrals in the future without asking.
5. "The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem." (Jack Sparrow, Pirates of the Caribbean)
Attitude is everything. At work, and in life, we’re faced with problems every day. And, it’s the same for our clients or customers. An angry person on the other end of the phone can be turned into a loyal worshipper when the right attitude about their problems is applied, be a good listener yes but be a better problem solver, WOW can be a positive attitude.
6. "Always let your conscience be your guide." – (The Blue Fairy, Pinocchio)
Okay so I've saved the best till last , It’s a good rule to live by, what goes around comes around so the message is very simple: Do the right thing and the WOW will follow.
